Descending from the Rohtang, one sees the deep valley of the Chandra river with the high peaks of Lahaul Mountains. There are small places one comes upto like Gramphu, Khoksar, Sissu, Gondhla. Cannot show them across the video very clearly coz it was foggy and raining throughtout. As one keeps traversing the road further the greenery diminishes. One can see the chandra river following along all this way. This wet weather carried on uptil Baralachla after which the weather and terrain changed dramatically !

After the LachulungLa Pass the descent is gradual as the road follows a narrow stream, the Lachulung Lungpa, that winds through a canyon. The canyon eventually widens to display some amazing natural sculptures. Chiselled by the elements, the rocky terrain here exibits extraordinary shapes. The landscape looks like a scene out of Arizona. As one traverses further down the road, a row of large cone-shaped rocks stick out of the opposite slope, looking from a distance like so many anthills. The road then carries on to Pang.

Changla Pass is claimed to be the third highest motorable pass in the world (appx 17,300 ft) and can be traversed while going to the Pangong Lake. The drive up to the pass is a zigzag road which is very scenic.

Tsomoriri is a stunningly beautiful lake with an incredible scenery around. The drive by the shore is mindblowing and the shimmering sapphire-blue lake with the snowy mountains afar are lit by the golden rays of the setting sun, is a breathtaking view. The lake is situated at an altitude of appx 15,000 ft. The lake is usually full of avian life.

The drive to TsoMoriri is a long but beautiful drive. The road ahead from upshi runs along the banks of the Indus. The terrain is arid till Likche where we can find some greenery. After Hymia one can see some spectacular copper-red mountains. As one moves forward one can see the hills becoming dark brown and green in shades. After Kiari the slopes turn purplish and the valley gradually opens up. As one moves still further with each twists and curves we find mountains and slopes in many colors. It is really a beautiful site… shades / hues of purple, green, yellow, brown, grey, ash. After we reach Chumathang (ideal lunch point) the road curves around the valley with wide areas of greens and various shades of the hills.

As one still goes further down on to the Nubra Valley we land up into the last village Panamik to which visitors are allowed. One can see beautiful hues of colors of the mountains from purple to brown to yellow to grey. We pass through a village called Sumur which is famous for the Samstangling Gompa, Nubra’s largest monastery. As we move forward we get to Panamil and its famous for its hot springs before we enter the village.
